Networking:
One of the most important things for any business or industry are connections. Who doesn't recognize that one person with all those contacts is always someone we want to know more about? The same goes for getting ahead in your career, but it's even trickier when you're at the bottom looking up. If there isn't an opening available now, then what should be done until an opportunity arises? Build relationships! Join groups online or attend networking events nearby so you can meet more people, and don't be afraid to ask for a business card or contact information.
How To Present Yourself:
Once you have new contacts in your network, how do they know who you are? If there's an opportunity coming up that will require presenting yourself (for example if someone wants to hire me), what should be done beforehand so I'm prepared with the right mindset? Preparation is key here. One way of getting ready would be by writing out my presentation on paper and then practicing it until I feel confident about myself going into this meeting."
The Importance Of Being An Expert:
How important is being an expert compared to other factors when looking for work? It's not always necessary! Sometimes employers want to hire someone who will fill a specific role, and that person might not be the expert they're looking for. How can this work to my advantage? When I'm applying for jobs sometimes I'll highlight areas of expertise over other skill sets on my resume - it's up to me how much or little information is provided!
Networking With Other Professionals:
How do I go about networking with other professionals in different fields outside of tech? It all depends what kind of interactions you want to have with these people. If there are connections where we share the same interests, then joining them in their industry events would be appropriate; however if you want an opportunity like getting new contacts out of your network but don't know anything about that field (like legal or finance), then you could try to attend events that are related to your field."
I hope this article has given you some ideas about how the tech industry works and what can be done when looking for work. Remember, networking is key, don't be afraid to get out there!
